Our MI Cable passes the UL2196 fire cable test the harshest and best possible way to test how durable a wiring system will be in fire.

This test and listing requires cables to be tested both horizontally in full scale 3 meter lengths with bends. 

The fire temperature is 1850°F  for a 2 hour exposure 

The test voltage is 347/600 volts rms  

The water spray is a high pressure firemens hose test.  

Cables are required to be tested as a system with fixings and supports as they will be installed. 

5 samples of each cable representing smallest to largest sizes are required to be tested in a horizontal mounting.

5 samples of each cable representing smallest to largest sizes are required to be tested in a vertical mounting.

 NEC Fire Rated Applications:

The NEC recognizes critical electrical circuits that, in the event of a fire, must continue to perform their intended functions. NEC Article 695 and Article 700 address “Fire Pump” and “Emergency System” applications respectively.

 Both require a minimum of a 2-hour fire-resistance rating which can be achieved through various methods. This requirement applies to the following: 

• Fire Pump Feeders
• Emergency Generator Feeders
• Emergency Exhaust Fans
• Emergency Lighting
• Exit Signs
• Firemen’s Elevators
